Abstract
This essay questions the function of the symptom as an enigma throughout some texts by Freud and Lacan. The symptom in its function of mask from Elisabeth to its deployment as an enigma in the histories of little Hans, culminating in the commentary on Lacan's Seminar 23. The symptom is highlighted by its intervention in the detachment of the subject, in Juanito's history. The function of the word as a replica of the subject before the Other in its attempts to separate. The analysis will be conceived as an analytical act that takes up that failed attempt at separation from which the symptom operates as an interposition between the subject and the Other. In the cases of Freud as well as in the reading of Lacan, from Elisabeth, Hans or Hamlet, the function of the word and the symptom-word, metaphor, substitution and defense of the subject stands out. In the case that Lacan constructs with Joyce we find a new dimension of the symptom now named Sinthome. As Sinthome, a new function of the symptom appears: the function of the writing, of the nomination, the father of the name as the enigmatic support of the structure of the subject. An exception to the fundamental rule?
Resumen
Este ensayo interroga la función del síntoma en tanto enigma a lo largo de algunos textos de Freud y Lacan. El síntoma en su función de máscara desde Elisabeth hasta su despliegue como enigma en los historiales del pequeño Hans, culminando en el comentario del Seminario 23 de Lacan. Del síntoma se remarca su intervención en el desasimiento del sujeto, en el historial de Juanito. La función de la palabra como réplica del sujeto ante el Otro en sus intentos de separación. El análisis será concebido como acto analítico que retoma ese intento de separación fallido del cual el síntoma opera como interposición entre el sujeto y el Otro. En los casos de Freud, así como en la lectura de Lacan, desde Elisabeth, Hans o Hamlet se destaca la función de la palabra y del síntoma-palabra, metáfora, suplencia y defensa del sujeto. En el caso que Lacan construye con Joyce encontramos una nueva dimensión del síntoma ahora nominado Sinthome. Como Sinthome aparece una nueva función del síntoma: la función del escrito, de la nominación, padre del nombre como sostén enigmático de la estructura del sujeto. ¿Una excepción a la regla fundamental?
